Beginning Blogging

"...livin' in a lonely world. She took the midnight train goin' anywhere." I most likely won't be taking any midnight trains for the next few months, but what better way to start a travel blog than with Journey and a little Don't Stop Believin'?

Since I am leaving next Sunday for the first of my many adventures this year, I thought it was time I created a blog to share my experiences with the rest of the world. One week from today, on May 26, I'll be leaving for Washington, D.C., where I will be interning this summer at an awesome nonprofit called PeacePlayers International. (Check out their website here!) I'm so excited for this incredible opportunity to improve my professional skills as well as make a difference for an organization that supports young basketball players in an effort to bring peace to conflicted regions. I'll be working on their social media presence this summer in addition to other things, so be sure and like us on Facebook and/or Twitter!

But before I fly to the other side of the country and bring out the inner history nerd in me at the nation's capital, I've been enjoying my first week at home, catching up with friends, visiting with family, and remembering how beautiful springtime is in the Pacific Northwest. Every time I come home I am reminded how lucky I am to have grown up here, in this beautiful place and a part of this incredible community. Whether I'm sitting in the Rosemont Starbucks with my West Linn basketball sisters, enjoying a stromboli with my favorite families at BJ Willies, or catching up with my Clutch girls at Bridgeport, there's this persistent sense of community here that seems to envelop me every time I come back and remind me that I am home.

With a week left before I leave for the East Coast, I'm trying to take in all that Oregon has to offer, without forgetting about everything I have to pack for the next eleven weeks. (Have I mentioned how frustrating it is that my size twelve shoes take up half my suitcase??) Anyway, my next post will probably be coming to you from the nation's capital, but today I'll leave you with this photo taken from our kitchen window. There's nothing quite like Oregon sunshine after a rainy afternoon!
